My Journey at NYU Tandon: Engineering a Future in Power Distribution

Throughout my time at Tandon, I’ve been actively involved in programs that have shaped my academic, professional, and personal growth. I’ve mentored five incoming freshmen through the Academic Achievement Program (AAP) and currently serve as a Resident Assistant at Brittany Hall, supporting 41 first-year residents. Beyond these leadership roles, I’m a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and Tandon Motorsports. I’m also part of Tandon’s honors program, GLASS (Global Leaders and Scholars in STEM), and have been recognized as a Tandon STEM Scholar through the Horatio Alger Association.

Looking ahead, I’m focused on pushing innovation in transmission and distribution within the power sector—particularly in power systems, high-voltage engineering, and energy infrastructure. Growing up, my dad, an electrician, took me to work with him from a young age. That early exposure sparked my interest in the electrical field, but through my own pursuits, I found myself drawn to the high-voltage side of things. In Summer 2024, I interned with EATON, working with electrical switchgear. That experience gave me valuable insight into the critical role of power grids, electrical infrastructure, and high-voltage equipment in ensuring reliability and efficiency.

Outside of engineering, I’m always working on something—whether it’s listening to music, running, or getting lost in hands-on projects. Lately, I’ve been deep into the RC hobby, currently building an RC Jeep. This summer, I plan to fine-tune my motorcycle’s performance parts—something I’m excited about and looking forward to this year.

My time at Tandon has given me clarity, purpose, and a drive to innovate. As I continue growing in this field, my goal remains the same: to push the boundaries of power and energy. One system, one circuit, and one breakthrough at a time.

Program Impact

The GLASS program has been a transformative experience for me as a junior studying electrical engineering. It has connected me with like-minded peers and mentors who share a passion for innovation and technology. The program’s focus on global leadership and entrepreneurship has expanded my perspective, encouraging me to think beyond traditional engineering roles and explore ways to tackle real-world challenges. Through workshops, networking events, and collaborative projects, GLASS has empowered me to enhance both my technical expertise and leadership abilities. This experience has prepared me to be a socially conscious engineer capable of making a meaningful impact on the world.

TakeAway

The GLASS program is more than just an academic initiative—it’s a platform for growth, innovation, and global engagement. I’m immensely thankful for the opportunities it has provided and look forward to continuing to build on these experiences as I progress in my career.

What I enjoyed the most

The study abroad experience was undoubtedly the highlight of my time in the program. Studying in the United Arab Emirates was something I never imagined, and it exceeded all expectations.

I had the chance to:

  • Immerse myself in a different culture and travel to nearby regions.

  • Form meaningful friendships and engage with diverse perspectives.

  • Experience a world-class education at NYUAD that served as a catalyst for personal growth.

This unforgettable journey broadened my worldview and deepened my appreciation for global dynamics, leaving me with cherished memories and a profound sense of gratitude for the transformative power of international education.
